Ideal Weight Calculator

Four evidence-based formulas give you a healthy weight range for your height.

How "ideal weight" is worked out

There is no single perfect formula for ideal body weight, so this calculator runs four of the most established ones — Devine, Robinson, Miller and Hamwi — and shows you a range rather than a single misleading number. Each formula was built from a different dataset, which is exactly why seeing them side by side is more honest than trusting one.

Ideal weight is based only on your height and sex, so like BMI it does not account for muscle. Use it as a rough target, not a verdict — for body composition, pair it with the body fat calculator.

Frequently asked questions

Which ideal weight formula is best?

None is definitively best — each was derived from different data. That is why this tool shows a range across four formulas. The Devine formula is the one most often used in clinical and pharmacological settings.

Does ideal weight account for muscle?

No. These formulas use only height and sex, so a muscular person may sit above their "ideal" range while being perfectly healthy. Body fat percentage is a better guide for athletes.

Why do the formulas give different numbers?

Each formula was created in a different era from a different population sample, so they weight height slightly differently. The spread between them is normal and is why a range is more useful than one figure.
